The Big Banner

We spent much of 2025 transforming a quilt from a previous project into a giant 10 x 6 metre banner celebrating life and peace.

Over 9 months we hand-sewed the words of Mahmoud Darwish, a poet cherished across Palestine and the world for his messages of humanity, love and ability to imagine connection beyond borders.

From his poem ‘On This Earth’, Darwish reminds us to find hope and beauty in the small, seemingly ordinary, yet profound moments which make up life. Written in 1986, his worlds are timeless and universal.

So many hands helped make this banner, both members old and new - from stitching on letters, to embroidering messages of love, peace and connection into the patchwork. Spending time stitching together opens up space to contemplate Darwish’s words and what makes life worth living.

Banner Journey

The Big Banner’s story does not stop here, in fact it’s only just beginning.

We hope our banner will travel to where it’s needed, to share Darwish’s words and invite more people to stitch in their own expressions of love and connection, deepening its message of shared humanity and celebration of life.

We’ve hung The Big Banner once at our Quilt Club HQ at Eade Studios and now we are looking for partners to collaborate with to bring it to new locations and invite people to add in more embroidered messages. We see this banner as an ever evolving piece of art, a bold declaration of peace and love strengthened by every stitch.

If you are interested in hosting the banner, please get in touch.
