‘This club is addictive!’
Since February 2024, we have been meeting weekly at the Broadwater Farm Community Centre, where a wonderful group of committed and jolly sewers has gathered to share and develop skills in quilt making. These weekly sessions have become a space for learning, collaboration, and connection, bringing together a diverse group united by a love for creating and community spirit.
The fabrics we’ve worked with are a true reflection of the local area. All materials are sourced from the local rag trade, which connects us to the rich textile heritage of the community. Generous donations from Liberty have added a touch of luxury and history to our creations, while Ridley Road’s vibrant Ankara fabrics bring bold colour and life to every piece, grounding us in the spirit of our local market. Each piece of fabric tells its own story, and together, they form a beautiful patchwork of local and cultural identity.
What’s been most special about these sessions, though, is the joy of making together. Whether it's the sound of sewing machines humming or the shared laughter and stories as we stitch, this group has formed deep, meaningful connections that go beyond the act of quilting. We’ve learned from each other, supported one another, and celebrated every stitch along the way.
As we look ahead, we’re already excited about the next massive group project that awaits us. This journey of creativity, connection, and joy is far from over, and we can’t wait to see where it leads us next.
Our superstar photographer Aziz Rahman followed us on this joyous journey and captured work in progress moments only dreams are made of.
