A Night to Celebrate a Year of Making Together

On this night, we celebrated a year of commitment to quilt making, learning to sew and finally taking home a useful beautiful patchwork quilt stitched with memories of new friendships and shared joy.

12 December 2024 was a night to remember. Hundreds of people from the local community and beyond gathered to celebrate the vibrant patchwork quilts we had spent the year creating together. The space buzzed with energy, warmth, and pride as guests moved through a stunning maze of giant frames, each showcasing the quilts in their full glory.

Displayed in a way that allowed visitors to experience both sides of each quilt, the intricate handwork—stitched with care, patience, and love—was fully visible, revealing the layered stories woven into every piece. The sports hall, usually a place of movement and action, became a glowing gallery of colour, texture, and shared creativity. Its bright hues complemented the patchwork, amplifying the sense of joy and achievement that filled the room.

Not stopping there, the quilters also created a culinary feast that spanned continents—jollof rice, empanadas, cakes and a spread of delicious dishes that invited everyone to taste the diverse cultures that came together in this collective celebration. The food, as rich and varied as the quilts, brought people together in yet another meaningful way, weaving a sense of unity through shared flavour and experience.

More than just an exhibition, the night was a testament to the power of collective making, the friendships formed through sewing, and the beauty of a community coming together to create something meaningful.

Our amazing photographer, Aziz Rahman took each quilter’s portrait - celebrating them in all their glory.
