Under One Sky:
Quilt Club’s latest giant communal art installation
Our new big and bold participatory art project is a celebration of Haringey’s vibrant and rebellious creativity and community unity, and everyone's invited to make their mark!
Inspired by our borough’s famous graffiti art, Under One Sky invites all residents to tag their names, stories, and creative designs to a 75-metre patchwork canvas depicting Haringey's night sky at free hands-on workshops that fuse urban street art with intricate sewing techniques and beautiful textiles. At each workshop, locals of any age and artistic ability can add their creative mark through embroidery, spray paint, drawings and more.
This summer the vast canvas will travel to workshops at schools, street parties, community centres and parks across HaringeyTottenham. Don't worry if you're not a skilled artist or embroiderer - our goal is to make art more accessible, especially to those who may feel excluded from traditional art spaces, and vividly capture the diverse identities and experiences that comprise our community living under one sky in Haringey. Just bring your unique perspective, and we'll weave it into this living canvas documenting who we are together.
The enormous canvas was originally created by Quilt Club members using fabric donations from businesses like Liberty and Black Black Horse Lane Atelier, and served as a centrepiece as a tablecloth at last year's Haringey Feast. Now it's being reimagined into a giant communal work of art. Once complete, Under One Sky will be installed on a prominent public wall as a celebration of Haringey’s tTottenham's rebellious talent and unity.
This is big, bold, participatory art made by and for the people. We're inviting everyone to leave their creative mark on this symbolic, ever-evolving artwork that symbolises who we are together, in a celebration of the borough’s rebellious creativity and unity.

THE BIG TABLECLOTH
Haringey Feast 2023
Together we made a whopping 75 meter tablecloth that adorned the dining tables for a massive community feast held at Alexandra Palace November 2023
Each participant made a star that reflected textiles from their past. Liberty Of London kindly donated archival fabric designed by local designer Althea McNish. McNish designed bright and bold prints for Liberty’s, depicting her cross cultural experience of a life lived between Trinidad and Tobago and the UK. It was an honour to make a night sky and place our star amongst hers.
Other fabric included moquette fabric from the London Underground, Ghanaian Kente cloth, Cottons from Poland and weaves from Kurdistan. Black Horse Lane saved us their gorgeous denim scraps that offered us all the shades of a blue nights sky.
